West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development

West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development (CORAF) is an international non-profit association representing 23 countries across West and Central Africa, covering more than 40% of the continent’s population. This makes it the largest sub-regional agricultural research organisation in Africa.

Established in 1987, CORAF coordinates and facilitates agricultural research and innovation to improve food and nutritional security, livelihoods, and incomes. Through its Centres of Specialisation, CORAF has developed and transferred nearly 640 agricultural technologies across the region, with the support of its financial and technical partners.

Strengthening Regional Coordination and Policy Engagement

CORAF, with over 37 years of experience in agricultural research and development across West and Central Africa, supports AfroGrow through its regional expertise in agroforestry, climate adaptation, and food systems. The organisation contributes to shaping inclusive strategies and raising awareness on agroforestry practices across Africa. It helps build regional policy recommendations by aligning data from Living Labs with African and European policy frameworks. It also contributes to the development of suitability assessment maps and supports stakeholder engagement, knowledge sharing, and awareness activities to promote sustainable agroforestry at both national and continental levels.
