Côte currently has 9 public universities including Nangui Abrogoua University (UNA). In accordance with Law No. 2023-429 of May 22, 2023 relating to higher education, research and innovation, the UNA is now a public higher education and research establishment with the status of Establishment Administrative Public of a Scientific and Technological Character (EPAST).
Its main mission is to provide training for scientific and technical executives, specialists in environmental management and food technology. The mission is carried out through carrying out training and research in the following areas:
- Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM);
- Environmental and Life Sciences ;
- Biotechnology;
- Renewable energies.
Nangui ABROGOUA University premises are established over an area of 126 hectares for campus 1 and 1.6 hectares for campus 2.
Université Nangui Abrogoua role in the project
UNA aims to monitor the effects of the remediation measures on overall biodiversity (above and below-ground biodiversity, wildlife), carbon stocks, soil health and cocoa production after two decades of establishment. This opportunity will be seised to sensitise farmers on the agroecological transition concept, good environmental practices and on the need to rely on gender-sensitive role to generated added-values to remediation activities. Results of the project will help promote agroforestry in the cocoa sector through advocacy and awareness raising campaigns to pave the way for scaling-up initiatives. In terms of training and capacity strengthening, the project will onboard PhD and MSc students and staff specialised in extension of agricultural innovations in rural areas.
